Former Odessa Mayor Trukhanov appeals house arrest: what is known about the case

According to inkorr.com: Former Odessa mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov has appealed the court's decision regarding round-the-clock house arrest in a case related to official negligence. This was reported by the suspect's lawyer, Oleksandr Lysak, citing information from 'Public.'

As of today, the appellate court has not yet scheduled a hearing date for the case.

House arrest

According to the decision of the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv dated October 31, former Odessa mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov will be under round-the-clock house arrest and is required to wear an electronic bracelet.

The suspicion against Trukhanov was announced by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko in connection with the deaths of nine people in Odessa on September 30. The investigation accuses the former official of improper performance of his official duties, specifically in maintaining the city's engineering networks.

In response, Gennadiy Trukhanov stated that the suspicion of official negligence came as a 'surprise' to him.

Heavy rains and bad weather in Odessa

It should be noted that on September 30, Odessa faced record rainfall caused by a slow local cyclone over the Black Sea. On that day, the city received 94 mm of precipitation, which is 224% of the monthly norm. The storm led to flooding, resulting in fatalities.

Thus, former Odessa mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov is appealing the court's decision on house arrest in the case of official negligence. He is required to wear an electronic bracelet and is suspected of failing to perform his duties properly, which led to a tragedy with nine victims during the bad weather.
