Gennadi Leonidovich Truchanov - Mayor of Odessa since 2014, head of the regional political party Trust the Deeds. People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VII Parliament (2012-2014), former member of the Party of Regions.
Place of Birth. Education. Born and raised in Odessa. In 1986, he graduated from the Odesa Artillery School named after F. E. Dzerzhinsky with a degree in the repair and maintenance of vehicles. From 2002 to 2006 he studied at the Kyiv National University of Internal Affairs, where he obtained a law degree. In 2013, he graduated from the Odessa Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.
Career. Since 1986, he served in the North Caucasian Military District of the Soviet Armed Forces. In 1992, he left the Armed Forces with the rank of captain.

On January 16, 2014, he voted for the 'dictatorship laws' - a package of undemocratic laws that significantly restricted the rights of citizens and freedom of the press.
On May 25, 2014, he was elected mayor of Odessa in the extraordinary mayoral elections.
In the local elections on October 25, 2015, he was re-elected to his position as mayor of Odessa, winning the election in the first round with over 52.5% of the votes.
In the snap parliamentary elections of 2019, he ran as a People’s Deputy of the Opposition Platform, No. 5 on the list. In the elections to the VRU, the Opposition Platform did not manage to pass the 5% threshold.
In the local elections of 2020, he participated in the mayoral elections in Odessa for the Trust the Deeds Party. In the first round, he took first place (37.54%), surpassing the representative of OPZZH, Nikola Skorik (19.06%). On November 17, 2020, the Odessa City Election Commission declared the incumbent mayor Gennadi Truchanov the new mayor of Odessa after he received 54.28% of the votes in the second round.
Criminal Complaint. In 2017, the NABU searched Truchanov's apartment and began an investigation into his activities as mayor of Odessa (he is suspected of misappropriating 185 million Hryvnias from the city budget).
On February 14, 2018, Truchanov and his deputy Pavel Vugelman were arrested upon their return to Ukraine, but the court later released them on bail. For Truchanov, the deputy from BPP Dmitry Golubov posted bail, for Vugelman, Alexandr Presman from the Renaissance party and Yuriy Miroshnichenko from the Opposition Platform faction. The NABU and SAP suspected the mayor of Odessa and several local officials of having embezzled 185 million Hryvnias from the city budget: The building of the Krajans factory was bought by the city administration at an overpriced price. Later, the amount was halved. The prosecutors requested 12 years in prison for Truchanov and 11 years for his deputy Pavel Vugelman.
On March 31, 2018, the anti-corruption authorities completed the investigation, and the prosecutors concluded that the evidence collected was sufficient to prepare an indictment against Truchanov, the Odessa officials, and others suspected of embezzlement of funds from the city budget.
On July 9, 2019, the Malinovsky District Court of Odessa acquitted Gennadi Truchanov and other officials of the Odessa City Council in connection with the purchase of buildings from the Krajans factory due to financial irregularities.
On February 11, 2021, the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court overturned the acquittal against the mayor of Odessa Gennadi Truchanov and the other defendants. Since the spring of 2021, the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has been dealing with the case.
On April 25, 2023, the panel of judges set a bail of 30.9 million Hryvnias for Truchanov and ordered him to wear an electronic ankle bracelet.
Community Activities. Since 2003, he has been the president of the Ukrainian National Federation of Muay Thai Thaiboxing.
Family. Married. He has two daughters.
