Kyiv Metro Shutdown Unnecessary, Energy Expert Says Power Situation Not Critical.
Expert Comments on Potential Kyiv Metro Shutdown
According to TSN.ua: Vladimir Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Centre, has commented on the idea of halting the Kyiv Metro to save electricity, stating the city's power situation is not critical enough to warrant such a step. He emphasized that the current electricity shortages in Kyiv are not severe enough to justify stopping the subway system. The Kyiv Metro itself has not made any announcements regarding a potential suspension of service.
The city has now gone over a week without scheduled power blackouts, indicating a degree of stability in the energy supply. Omelchenko added that while a metro shutdown cannot be completely ruled out, the hope is for the situation to improve. This relative stability comes after months of Russian attacks targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which have caused widespread damage.
Status of Energy Supply
Kyiv's energy supply situation remains under control despite certain concerns. City services and energy workers are focused on maintaining a stable electricity supply, which has so far allowed the city to avoid drastic measures like shutting down the metro. The continued operation without imposed power rationing schedules points to a gradual improvement within the energy sector.
