A new acting mayor has been appointed in Odesa: what is happening after Zelensky's decree.
Ihor Koval appointed as acting mayor of Odesa
According to inkorr.com: Ihor Koval, the secretary of the Odesa city council, has been appointed as the acting mayor of Odesa. This information has been confirmed by the official page of the city council, as reported by 'Hromadske'.
The reason for Koval's appointment to this position was the second provision of Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine 'On Local Self-Government in Ukraine'.
Protests in Odesa over the citizenship issue of Trukhanov
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree that deprives several individuals with Russian passports, including Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, former MP Oleg Tsarev, and dancer Sergey Polunin, of Ukrainian citizenship.
However, Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov claims that he does not possess Russian citizenship. He describes the president's decision to deprive him of Ukrainian citizenship as 'fabrication'.
As a result of this decision, protests took place outside the Odesa city hall, during which participants demanded Trukhanov's resignation and the establishment of a military administration in the city.
The situation in Odesa has escalated after the president's decree was signed. The act itself, as well as Trukhanov's reaction to it, provoked outrage. Protests occurred outside the city council, and the atmosphere in the city remains tense.
The appointment of Ihor Koval and the events surrounding Hennadiy Trukhanov reflect the conflicting processes of governance and political control in Odesa. This raises questions about the stability of local self-government and the community's response to the actions of central authorities. It is expected that developments in the coming days may impact the political landscape of the region.Read also
