Odesa Plunged Into Darkness and Without Water Following Overnight Kamikaze Drone Assault.
Odesa Under Attack
According to TSN.ua: Odesa has once again come under fire from Russian occupying forces. Residents in several districts have been left without electricity, water, and heating following strikes on energy infrastructure and civilian sites. The assault began at midnight as waves of kamikaze drones approached from the sea in two groups, inflicting severe damage.
The attack resulted in nine explosions. At the scene, 58 firefighters worked to contain the aftermath. Among the destroyed facilities was a local market, where damages are estimated in the hundreds of thousands of hryvnias. Energy crews have begun efforts to restore power, but parts of the city remain without essential utilities.
City residents endured terrifying moments during the assault. The cleanup operation was complicated by repeated air raid sirens, as noted by Maryna Averina, spokesperson for the State Emergency Service of the Odesa region.
"These 'Shaheds' just kept coming, one after another. It was so terrifying, I said goodbye to my life." - Nadiia, a resident of a nine-story building.
"We heard the explosion and immediately ran to the hallway. We tried to leave, but the front door was jammed shut." - Yurii Saveliiovych, a city resident.
The City's Current State
During these events, the work of rescue services and utility crews striving to restore normal life in the city is critically important. However, despite their efforts, the situation remains tense, and residents continue to feel the attack's effects.
This strike is part of Russia's broader campaign, ongoing since the start of the war, to cripple Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. Targeting energy facilities aims not only to cause physical destruction but also to exert psychological pressure on the population. The international community's response to these events remains crucial, as it can influence the conflict's trajectory and the support for Ukraine during this difficult time. These attacks on port cities like Odesa also have significant implications for global food security.
