Snowfall paralyzed Kyiv: why there is no snow removal equipment on the streets.
According to ТСН: The residents of Kyiv complain about the insufficient number of snow removal vehicles on the streets of the capital, which has led to significant traffic jams. Residents of Troieschyna note that the road to Darnytsia remains completely unplowed, creating a 'mash' under the wheels of cars. People are surprised why snow removal equipment is not visible on the streets of Kyiv.
Kyivavtodor management assures that snow removal is actively taking place
Road service representatives explained how they organized the snow removal operations. Kyivavtodor noted that the number of snow removal equipment on the streets has been increased from night to morning. They are working in an enhanced mode due to the intense snowfall.
'Approximately 250 units of special equipment from KP Kyivavtodor are deployed on the streets of the capital, which conducts cleaning of the roadway and treats the roads with anti-icing materials. First and foremost, work is carried out on major streets, bridges, descents, and ascents, which are critical for road safety,' the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration reported.
Representatives of the communal services admit that due to prolonged snowfall, snow may still remain in some areas of the city. They continue to work continuously, and the situation is gradually improving as the intensity of precipitation decreases.
'Moreover, approximately 400 workers in 53 teams are currently engaged in cleaning and treating public transport stops, narrow sidewalks, stairs, safety islands, and pedestrian crossings with anti-icing agents,' they add in the Kyiv City State Administration.
Why does the snow remain on the roads?
The Transport Department explained that a lot of snow remains on the roads of the capital due to the specificity of how anti-icing materials work.
'Anti-icing materials (mixture) get into the snow, and due to mixing during vehicle movement, they start to work. That is, the mixture does not remove snow immediately – it acts gradually in conjunction with vehicle movement.'
It should be noted that the first level of danger has been declared in Ukraine due to hazardous meteorological phenomena, including fog and icing on the roads.
The situation with the snowfall in Kyiv remains under control, despite residents' complaints. Communal services promise to continue cleaning operations until meteorological conditions improve. It is important for drivers and pedestrians to be careful in adverse weather conditions.
