Ukraine's Energy Agency Debunks False Claims of Power Exports to the EU.
False Claims of Ukrainian Electricity Exports
According to TSN.ua: False information alleging that Ukraine is commercially selling electricity to European Union nations is being actively spread on social media. The Center for Countering Disinformation (CPD) has refuted these rumors, stating clearly that Ukraine is not exporting power. All available electricity generation within the country is being directed exclusively to meet domestic demand. This shortage is a direct result of Russian attacks on the nation's thermal and hydroelectric power plants. Ukraine's energy grid remains under severe strain from the ongoing conflict.
Prioritizing Domestic Energy Needs
The deficit in Ukraine's energy system stems from relentless strikes by the Russian Federation, which have damaged critical generation facilities. Experts note that while Ukraine's power grid is synchronized with the European ENTSO-E network, this connection enables technical power flows for balancing frequency and voltage across the unified system. These are not commercial electricity sales. This synchronization is a strategic link for stability, not a channel for export under current conditions.
"These facts highlight the critical importance of supporting Ukraine's internal electricity consumption," said expert Viktoriia Voitsitska.
Expert Viktoriia Voitsitska also warned of potential difficulties in Kyiv if key generation facilities are destroyed. These points underscore the necessity of focusing on domestic power consumption and demonstrate that, given the current resource shortage, talk of exporting electricity to EU countries is impossible. With the war and continuous attacks on energy infrastructure, energy security is a top priority for Ukraine. Maintaining stability in the power grid is critically important not only for supplying the population with electricity but also for supporting the country's economy. The debunking of this export disinformation confirms that Ukraine's energy system currently requires internal support and protection, and international cooperation can focus on aiding its resilience.
