Melnik characterized claims of suffering among the Russian people as unfounded.
As of February 2022, according to figures cited by the Russian side, at least 27,500 Russian civilians were supposedly affected. It was also claimed that hundreds of social infrastructure facilities in the Belgorod region had been destroyed. In response to these allegations, Andriy Melnik stated:
“I want to briefly react to the Russian representative’s claims about the alleged suffering of the Russian people” - Andriy Melnik
He further urged the Russian side to 'stop whining and lying' and demanded: 'Get out of Ukraine!'
International Reaction to the Conflict
This exchange was part of a broader discussion within the UN Security Council addressing various aspects of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The conflict continues to generate international concern, and the positions of both countries during such meetings remain deeply polarized.
The statements from Ukrainian and Russian UN representatives highlight the deep-seated contradictions between the two nations, which have been in a state of conflict since 2014. The international community is closely monitoring the situation due to its significant impact on global security and stability.
