Police investigates shooting of a dog near Kyiv: what is known about the incident.
According to ТСН: In Sofiivska Borshchahivka, near Kyiv, information has emerged that a police officer allegedly shot a dog during a call-out. The police are currently verifying this information.
The incident was reported in a local public group "Dog Lovers of Borshchahivka." According to information on social media, the dog ran out of the yard, and neighbors called the authorities. One of the police officers reportedly shot the animal in the head.
"On 09.12, a Rottweiler ran out of the private house territory during our absence. Neighbors called the police. Upon arriving at the scene, this police officer, without trying to take any adequate measures or contacting canine units or animal volunteers, decided that the dog posed a threat and shot it in the head! The young dog, which was not trained for protection, could have been dealt with using ordinary makeshift means," they wrote on social media.
The press service of the Kyiv patrol police confirmed that they have started verifying the authenticity of the information published in Telegram channels. The police are conducting an investigation to clarify all the circumstances of the incident and confirm whether there was actually a case of the officer using a weapon.
Additionally, the Kyiv patrol police do not rule out that they will provide official information regarding the situation on social media soon.
It is worth noting that in Lviv, law enforcement opened a criminal proceeding regarding a case of possible cruelty to animals, which resulted in the death of two dogs. The Kyiv police also confirmed the fact of a teenager killing a cat in the Akademmistechko area, as previously reported on social media.
In this situation, a verification is taking place, which will clarify the circumstances of the violation of the law and the possible responsibility of the police officer. This also raises the question of training law enforcement on how to respond to similar cases in order to prevent tragedies involving animals in the future.
