Olya Polyakova Calls Eurovision 2025 Selection 'Inappropriate' Amid Wartime Spending.
Olya Polyakova's Take on This Year's National Eurovision Selection
According to TSN.ua: Olya Polyakova has shared her perspective on Ukraine's national selection for Eurovision, admitting she did not watch the show. The singer had submitted an application to participate but was barred due to a rule prohibiting performers who appeared in Russia after 2014. Polyakova's last visit to Russia was in 2015.
Commenting on the situation, the artist stressed the need to consider the current state of the country. She argued that spending money on selection processes during a war is misplaced.
“I believe that in a country at war, it is inappropriate to spend money on selection shows,”said Olya Polyakova.
Debating Cultural Spending During Wartime
Polyakova's remarks highlight an ongoing debate in Ukraine about the allocation of funds for cultural events during wartime. Her stance resonates with many Ukrainians who question the wisdom of hosting entertainment activities amid instability. This issue is likely to fuel further discussions on how to support culture in Ukraine and how shifting societal priorities shape cultural initiatives.
