Fake Payout Offers from the UN and 'Ukrenergo' Used in New Scam: How to Avoid Being Duped.
Fraudulent Messages Spreading Through Chat Apps
According to TSN.ua: Scammers are circulating messages through instant messaging platforms about a supposed 8,800 UAH payout from the United Nations and a 3,100 UAH compensation from NPC 'Ukrenergo'. Officials have denied these claims, stressing that 'Ukrenergo' does not handle compensation payments.
The fraudsters operate a fake website designed to look like 'Oschadbank' to trick people. While NPC 'Ukrenergo' manages the electricity transmission system, it does not supply power to household consumers. This misinformation is the latest attempt to exploit a sensitive topic involving the company.
Real-World Fraud Case
Separately, in the Rivne region, a 28-year-old businessman stole over 1.5 million hryvnias and fled abroad. These incidents highlight the need for caution in times of information uncertainty and rising scams.
This situation underscores the importance of staying alert to potential fraud, especially during economic instability and amid social benefit programs. People should always verify information through official channels and avoid trusting suspicious messages that could lead to financial loss.
