In Munich, a former ISIS fighter is being tried: a victim recounts torture and sex slavery.
According to ТСН: An Yazidi girl who experienced brutal violence in her youth testified in a Munich court about the horrific events that happened to her when she was 12 years old. Her testimony is part of the case against two Iraqi defendants accused of buying, exploiting, and sexually abusing Yazidi girls.
Victim's Testimony
A 20-year-old woman, one of the victims in the so-called Yazidi trial, emotionally revealed during her testimony that "I was sold by six men." She reacted emotionally upon seeing the defendant in the courtroom and almost interrupted her testimony but decided to continue recounting what she endured between 2015 and 2017 in Iraq, where the Islamic State was in control.
"I was sold by six men," she said to the court.
The witness emphasized that she could not recognize the defendant, saying, "I cannot look at them." According to the prosecution's accusations, both defendants committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. The defendant also took pleasure in observing the victim after removing her veil.
Aspects of Violence
The victim recalled how the defendant mocked her and told his friends: "Buy her, she hasn't been raped yet." She also reported that she suffered sexual violence and regularly endured beatings:
"He took a stick and beat me on the soles... he forced me to sleep with him," the victim recalled.
During her testimony, the woman felt unwell several times and became hysterical upon seeing the defendant. "I would like to die," she added, providing details of the violence she experienced.
Additionally, the defendant played music during the rapes, which she referred to as "ISIS music." The victim was forced to perform household duties while being subjected to violence at night. "He made me feel unfaithful, and that it was God's will," the witness testified.
Case Details
The co-defendant, the man's partner, is also involved in the crimes, having allegedly applied makeup to the child before the sexual act. Yazidis, to whom the witness belongs, have been victims of ISIS persecution since 2014 when radical militants seized their territories in Iraq.
Thousands of men were killed, and women and children became victims of sexual violence. The witness also noted that the defendant previously raped another Yazidi girl who was even younger than her.
The couple suspected of the crimes lived in Munich for over ten years but went to Iraq in 2015 to join ISIS militants. After their expulsion in 2017, the defendants fled to Germany, where they were arrested.
This case continues to attract public attention and human rights organizations, which highlight the importance of every detail of victims' testimonies for a fair investigation. In the ongoing trial, it is vital for the voices of those who have experienced violence to be heard and taken into account in decision-making.
