Russia Aims to Enlist 409,000 New Troops by 2026, Ukraine’s Top Commander Warns.
Moscow’s Mobilization Efforts: What’s New
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, has raised the alarm over Russia’s ambition to dramatically expand its occupation forces. He stated that Moscow intends to recruit 409,000 soldiers in 2026. This development adds to the growing tension along the Ukrainian front, where the situation is already escalating.
Oleksandr Syrskyi: 'The enemy has not abandoned its plans and continues to prepare for further aggression against Ukraine.'
In response, a special operational meeting was convened to assess the state of defensive fortifications. Attendees included military commanders, leadership from the State Special Transport Service, and regional military administrations.
Syrskyi highlighted several critical priorities:
- strengthening fortifications;
- improving anti-drone defenses;
- preparing populated areas for defense.
According to him, 'there are issues—we identified concrete solutions and deadlines for their implementation.' He added, 'The quality and speed of this work will determine not only the resilience of our defense but also the lives of our soldiers.'
As a result, the frontline remains under intense pressure, and Ukraine’s military leadership is taking steps to bolster the country’s defense capabilities amid new threats from Russia.
Syrskyi’s statements underscore the seriousness of the potential Russian troop surge. With active combat operations and constant shifts on the battlefield, Ukrainian commanders are focusing on enhancing defensive readiness. This signals that Ukraine’s military strategy is evolving to meet the challenges posed by Russia’s mobilization. In particular, the emphasis on fortifications and anti-drone measures could prove decisive in future engagements between the two nations.
