Latest Updates on Ukrzaliznytsia Travel

According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is moving forward with plans to introduce a passenger train route to Bulgaria that will pass through Romania, operating under a three-country agreement. The initiative is designed to offer travelers an affordable and accessible connection. Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister of Communities and Territories, confirmed that efforts are underway to make this railway link a reality. A test run is expected as early as this summer, with a focus on delivering a competitive service through public service obligation (PSO) arrangements.

As part of the project, passenger insurance is also being explored. Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, head of Ukrzaliznytsia’s board, stated that the company is open to partnering with insurance providers. He emphasized that

“we are ready to insure people, just like in aviation”
— Oleksandr Pertsovskyi. However, he noted that implementation depends on the insurance market’s willingness to take on such policies.

On ticket pricing, Pertsovskyi reassured the public, saying

“the government has a clear strategy to keep prices from rising until the end of the war”
— Oleksandr Pertsovskyi. This is a key message for potential passengers, who can expect fare stability during these challenging times. The launch of this passenger train to Bulgaria via Romania marks a significant step in expanding rail connections and making travel more accessible for Ukrainians.

Outlook for International Rail Development

Introducing new international rail services could not only improve mobility for Ukrainians but also help revive tourism across the region. Maintaining stable ticket prices amid the war is also crucial for sustaining demand for travel. If the project proves successful, it may serve as a model for further expansion of railway links between Ukraine and other European countries.
