According to TSN.ua: A 17-year-old from Shanghai has been sentenced to six years in prison for exploiting a loophole in an online platform's refund policy, generating illegal profits of approximately $570,000. The teenager orchestrated a scheme by submitting 11,900 fraudulent refund requests. This case highlights the sophisticated nature of digital fraud, even when committed by young individuals.
The total value of the goods he illicitly obtained was 4.76 million yuan, equivalent to about $680,000. After selling these goods, the teen secured a net profit of 4.01 million yuan, which translates to a sum between $570,000 and $574,000.
