According to TSN.ua: In the early hours of February 5, 2023, Russian forces launched a drone attack on the city of Sumy, striking a residential apartment building. The assault occurred around 02:30 using a 'Geran-2' type drone, a model frequently used by Russian forces for such strikes. This attack is part of a wider pattern of assaults on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure far from the front lines.
The impact blew out over 50 windows in the multi-story building and damaged several parked cars. Despite the extensive property damage, local authorities reported no casualties or injuries. Emergency and utility services are currently on site providing necessary assistance and assessing the full extent of the damage.
Appeal from City Officials
City authorities have urged residents to remain in shelters during air raid alerts to prevent potential future casualties. Artem Kobzar, the acting mayor of Sumy, emphasized the need for citizens to adhere to all safety protocols.
"Residents must remain vigilant and follow all safety measures," stated Artem Kobzar.
This incident underscores the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine and the persistent threat Russian forces pose to civilian areas. Sumy, located in northeastern Ukraine, remains at significant risk, requiring its inhabitants to maintain constant readiness for potential attacks.
Local officials continue to implement measures aimed at ensuring citizen safety and enabling a rapid response to such emergencies.
